This renovation emphasizes a new image for the UMass Memorial Medical Center Children’s Hospital by incorporating new logo and signage with a lobby renovation that includes a new reception desk and a new Ronald McDonald Family Room. Located immediately at the entrance to the Children’s Hospital, the Family Room provides a comfortable refuge for parents by allowing them an area for a quick snack, an opportunity for a quiet cup of coffee, and a chance to check email or make phone calls away from the child’s bedside, yet immediately adjacent to the patient rooms. A large aquarium serves as a focus for the lobby as well as the Family Room, and the playful theme is continued in the design of the reception desk and lighting fixtures, as well as the application of finish materials.
